The Role of Telecommunications in Society
June 13th, 2011
The entire industry of telecommunications has changed drastically over time. Any type of message that is transmitted over a significant distance is a form of telecommunication if the purpose of the message itself is communication. Telecom service and telecommunication is very important yet it is not a very exciting topic for most people. People who lived in earlier civilization didn’t have it as easy as people do in the modern world.
Telecommunication back in those days was only possible using methods like visual signals. Equipment such as loud whistles, coded drumbeats, and optical heliographs were used long ago before all of the modern equipment used today. In the modern world of electronics and electricity telecommunications has evolved into devices such as the telephone. Other common equipment used for telecommunications in the modern world includes things like the Internet, fiber optics, and microwave types of communications.
One of the first revolutionary pieces of equipment that set the stage for modern telecommunications technology was the telegraph. Using cables that spread out across the ocean floor continents were connected and communicating with each other. Conducting metal wires were used in the majority of early telecommunications equipment. Wireless telecommunications are used in the modern world as well.
A perfect example of a modern day telecommunications device that people could almost certainly not live without is the cellular phone. In the modern world telecommunications actually plays a substantial role and society would have a hard time functioning without it. This field is constantly growing creating revenue and those who are informed and understand the need for the technology will undoubtedly flourish in the future.
